Western Cape Tops List of Millionaire Suburbs
January 8 - The rich and famous of South Africa are very particular about where they live, and having the right address is absolutely crucial.
The latest 'millionaire suburb' list of the top twenty residential locations in South Africa shows an overwhelming dominance of Western Cape suburbs, while many residents preferred living on golf estates.
The Western Cape suburbs of Steenberg Golf Course and the Pezula Private Estate in Knysna top the list in first and second places.
Westcliff in Gauteng and Zimbali Golf Estate in KwaZulu Natal made the third and fourth top spots, but then the Western Cape dominates the rest of the list from fifth until fifteenth place, with Gauteng only making a listing in seventh place through the suburb of Dunkeld.
But while it may be imagined that millionaire residents with a golfing green on their doorstep spend hours playing the game, it has been found that this is not quite the case.
Most residents choose golfing estates because of their high tech security features, including manned entrances and sign in procedures.
The value of property on the millionaire's list is certainly eye watering.
The top spot, Steenberg Golf Course, situated - ironically - across the road from the maximum security Pollsmoor Prison, has average homes worth over R10.6 million.
Interestingly, the Western Cape suburb of Clifton only made sixth spot on the list, one below the Waterfront where properties are valued at around R6 million for apartments overlooking the V&A basin.
