Temporary Relocation Brings Property Headaches

August 13 - Getting offered a job in the different part of the country may be the break that families are waiting for, although for some it may be a necessity to remain employed.

Whatever the reasons for relocating temporarily, one question could cause sleepless nights - whether it is wise to sell or let property left behind.

There is no right and wrong answer, and homeowners should take into account their own circumstances when making a decision.

For example, if there is a large bond on the house, it would be a good idea to sell the property, as it would become too much of as strain to keep up with home loan payments and pay the rent in the new location.

Renting may be a good idea, especially if homeowners know for sure that they are returning, and want to avoid searching for another property when the time comes to return home.

However, renting out property - especially from afar - doesn't come without its own problems.

For one, there are still costs incurred, such as municipal rates, maintenance costs and more, and these should be taken into account when doing financial calculations.

For that reason it is especially important to choose a reputable property manager who will oversee the renting out of the property, collect checks and everything else involved.

Property agents also have the expertise to advise renters if they are getting a reasonable price for their properties to ensure that they are getting the best deal possible while being temporarily relocated.
